Hiner Outdoor Living designed and installed our new yard in Monument, Colorado, at 7500 ft elevation. Our concerns about what plants will grow at this elevation and following the HOA requirements were handled wonderfully by Matt Hiner and his team. Sherry MacWilliam did an expert landscape design, which included plant selection. Now in our 2nd year and the yard looks wonderful.

Transform your outdoor area into a living tapestry of colors and textures with professional planting services.
Imagine your landscape as a dynamic display of nature's beauty, where every planting and bloom is carefully selected to suit your unique landscape. This is not just landscaping; it's an art form that enhances your connection with the natural world.
With expert planting services, you have access to a wide range of plantings, from perennial favorites that return year after year to vibrant annuals that offer seasonal color. The variety includes native species, which are not only beautiful but also adapted to your local environment, requiring less maintenance and providing a habitat for local wildlife.
The benefits of a well-planned landscape extend beyond aesthetics. Plantings play a crucial role in creating a healthier environment. They improve air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen, creating a cleaner, fresher outdoor space. The right plantings can improve soil health and aid in water conservation through strategic landscaping practices.
Expert planting also involves considering the microclimates within your landscape. This means placing each planting in an area where it will thrive, considering factors like sunlight, moisture, and soil type. This strategic placement ensures that your landscape looks good, is sustainable, and is easy to maintain.
A professionally designed planting scheme can also create a sense of privacy and tranquility in your outdoor space.
Hedges, shrubs, and trees can be used to screen your landscape from neighbors or street noise, creating a secluded oasis where you can relax and unwind. The use of fragrant plantings and blooms can further enhance the sensory experience, turning your landscape into a haven of sights and scents.
The versatility of planting design allows for the creation of themed landscapes, whether you desire a tranquil Zen space, a vibrant cottage landscape, or a structured formal landscape. Each theme provides a unique atmosphere and can be tailored to reflect your personal style and preferences.
Professional planting services also offer the advantage of expert knowledge and care. This means understanding the specific needs of each planting, from watering and feeding to pruning and disease prevention. With this expertise, your landscape is not only beautifully designed but also meticulously maintained, ensuring its health and longevity.
Frequently Asked Questions

Colorado Springs' high elevation, intense sun, and dry conditions call for plants suited to a semi-arid climate with cold, snowy winters. Native and adapted species like Rocky Mountain penstemon, blue mist spirea, and ornamental grasses handle these conditions with less water and maintenance than non-native plantings. Trees like aspen and native pine tolerate the elevation and temperature swings better than species suited to warmer, wetter climates. Hiner Outdoor Living selects plantings based on each property's specific sun exposure, soil, and drainage.
-
Privacy plantings typically rely on dense evergreens, tall grasses, or layered shrub rows planted along property lines to block sightlines year-round. Decorative plantings focus on seasonal color, texture, and bloom timing, often placed near patios or entryways where they're viewed up close. Many landscapes combine both approaches, using structural evergreens for privacy and flowering perennials for visual interest. The design team maps out plant placement based on the specific goals for each area of the yard.

Full planting plans from Hiner Outdoor Living map out plant selection, placement, and bed layout across the entire property, coordinated with existing hardscape, irrigation, and grading. These plans account for mature plant size so beds don't become overcrowded years after installation. Planting projects vary in scope, covering single garden beds on one end and complete yard renovations tied to a larger design-build project on the other. A site consultation determines the right scope for each property.
